Examining Codes of Ethics

Responsive Family Centered Practices (DEC)
We shall demonstrate our respect and concern for children, families, colleagues, and others with whom we work, honoring their beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture.

This ideal is meaningful to me and it is significant to my professionalism because no matter what I feel that we should always demonstrate our respect and concern for everyone no matter who they are because just because they might not be like us or have the same beliefs we should always respect them no matter what.

Professional Practice (DEC)
We shall build relationships with individual children and families while individualizing the curricula and learning environments to facilitate young children's development and learning.

This idea is to my professionalism because in order to maintain a healthy and safe environment we should always build a relationship with the children and their families so that they could feel safe and know that their children are learning in a comfortable and safe place.

Conceptual Framework (NAEYC)
To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.

This is the most meaningful and most significant to my professionalism because as professionals we have to remember that everyone learns differently and they all have the potential of being something great so we have to respect that know that they have different abilities and qualities about themselves

  2. Hi Kyisha, I think that these post were very well thought of and I like the fact of how u said that everyone learns differently. I really don't think that some people sit down and think this all the way through at times.

  3. Hello! I really liked your post on professional practice and conceptual framework. It is often hard to remember to remember professional practice when you have 24 preschoolers who all have needs and you ahve standards in which they are required to meet. I do my best though and plan mt lessons on individual needs throughout my plans. As for the conceptual framework I think that is the best part of our job because we really get to know these chidlren on an intimitate level. Every year I strive to make sure there is something uniquae and special I know about each of my children in the classroom it is what makes our relationship unique. Great Post!

  4. Hi Kyisha

I see that your choices focus on the aspect of respecting individuals, familes, and children. I feel we do this by building trusting, safe relationships where individuals are acknowledged and valued (both children and adults). I also admire your reference to realizing the potential in individuals instead of getting stuck in patterns of reacting to behaviors and maintaining the status quo.

  5. I like your first code of ethics that you chose. We should always honor our families that we serve, colleagues, and whom ever we work with customs, beliefs, values, and traditions. Everyone is unique and we should honor that. I think it is good to learn about other peoples beliefs, values, and traditions. Its a good learning experience.

  6. Honoring our families is a great code to follow They are our partners in educating children. When we respect them the child benefits. Honoring thier beliefs, customs, values, language is also important. When we incorporate this into our lessons we teach children about undersanding and acceptance of everyone in the world. If all teachers do this our world will one day be a better place.

  7. Hi Kyisha,

The choices you made as the codes most important to you reflect your understanding of diversity in the classroom. Every student that enters our classroom brings with him/her a wide variety of differences whether they are cultural, racial, or just by their ability to learn. Reading your post shows that you have a great understanding of the differences children bring and respect those differences by treating each child as an individual.
